How is the PROMPT approach different?

The PROMPT approach encourages internal feedback to establish motor patterns for language. For many clients, the use of auditory and visual information is not enough. It has been proven that individuals with communication impairments benefit from tactile-kinesthetic-proprioceptive input. That is, feeling and listening to themselves more so than a reliance on listening and watching a therapist. An individual will have greater opportunity to improve if cutaneous-sensory practice coordinates with their own knowledge of what they are doing and saying. The PROMPT approach uses a series of tactile-kinesthetic cues which shape verbal communication. Predictable phrases are created through a partnership between the therapist and home. Phrases, determined as a cognitive-linguistic and/or social emotional need, allows communication impaired individuals to gain accurate verbal communication within their individual environments. What verbalizations are most important?
